Chelsea handed shock Joao Felix transfer reality after decision confirmed amid Liverpool plan
Chelsea transfer news: The Blues could be coming up against their former attacking star later this season as a potential move to the Premier League opens up.

The 23-year-old didn't play a minute for Diego Simeone's side in pre-season and was forced to watch on from the sidelines on the opening day of the 2023/24 La Liga season. Madrid won that one 3-1 but against Real Betis six days later he was left out entirely. The attacker isn't expected to be involed in the action against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night either.

His loan spell at Chelsea for the second half of last season excited many but left others still disappointed, wanting more from a player that cost Atletico £111million in 2019. He has scored just 38 club goals in the four years since and not even some dazzling work in an otherwise flat Chelsea side last term could change his immediate fortunes.

Now, Felix is in limbo. Simeone prefers hardworking and rigid players, Felix wants a way out and all parties are at a standstill. When the transfer window closes in four days time there will be eyes on Felix and what is to come but at this stage things are still in the air.

Barcelona are his dream destination but their financial woes make the optics of a deal doubtful at this time in the window. For all parties there is a preference to see things move on though.

"I’d love to play for Barça," he told Fabrizio Romano earlier in the summer. "Barcelona has always been my first choice and I’d love to join Barça. It was always my dream since I was a kid. If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me."
